Sports and athletics

Linköping municipality also has many scenic trails where you can go running or walking. The biggest keep-fit facility is Vidingsjö Motionscenter. If you like riding you can visit Smedstad Ridcenter in Linköping, a modern arena opened in 2016.

Swimming pools and aquaparks

Linköping's new built (2023) public swimming pool Tinnerbäcksbadet offers a large selection of swimming and keep-fit activities including aquaparks, swimming lessons, a relax section, gym and various group activities. The aquapark has three water slides, a wave machine and a special children’s area. The swimming pool is a fully equipped facility for competitive and exercise swimming, water games and relaxing.

There are also a large number of swimming facilities in lakes around Linköping municipality.

Football

Linköping Arena is Linköping’s main arena for football, and home turf for the women’s team Linköpings Fotbolls Club. The arena was inaugurated in the summer of 2013. If you want to have a game with your friends you can choose from the municipality’s large number of football pitches available without previous arrangement.

Ice rinks

There are four ice rinks in Linköping, a bandy field and an ice skating oval. The Stångebro area has three ice rinks, with Saab Arena the municipality’s flagship rink. It seats 8 500 and is home to LHC ice hockey team. There is also an ice rink north of the city, by Ljungsbro Fritidscenter. If you want to go skating there are public skating times at Stångebro, Ljungsbro and the Campus Valla oval, for example.

Athletics

Linköping’s main arena for athletics is immediately adjacent to the university and the municipality’s athletics facility at Campus Valla. The arena is fully equipped for training as well as national competitions, and has 8 running tracks and covered seating for 500 spectators, with a separate training field for throwing events. The Campus Valla covered athletics facility is in the same area. It is a fully equipped indoor arena for athletics and also has a full-size floorball court.

Linköping municipality’s central booking service manages booking of the municipality’s sports arenas, schools’ sports facilities and other school premises. This means that you can book a space for your cooking course as well as for a floorball tournament through Linköping municipality.
