Special Education classes for Upper Secondary School
The programme is a free and voluntary education for adolescents with developmental impairments. The special education classes for upper secondary school follow the same curriculum as the regular upper secondary school, but has a separate curriculum adapted to its educational needs.
All municipalities have an obligation to offer special education to adolescents that are unable to attend upper secondary school due to developmental impairments.
All special education programmes in upper secondary school are four years long and there are various vocational programmes, individual programmes with business training and vocational training. There is considerable flexibility in designing the individual programme to suit to each student's needs. The special education programmes for upper secondary school aim to provide an education that is adapted to each student's abilities, and to the extent possible, corresponds to the education in regular upper secondary schools.
